Question Videos missing from Photo folder in Windows

I'm using PhotoSync (which is a brilliant app, by the way) to copy photos and videos from my phone to my NAS. It seemed sensible to put them in the photo folder which DSM created. In File Station I can see that all the photos and videos have arrived. However, when I look at the same folder in Windows, none of the videos show up, only the photos.

Is this a 'feature' of the photo folder? What do I need to change to prevent this from happening?

OK, I can answer part of my own question. To see the videos, I needed to go to indexing and turn on video indexing for that folder.

The question that remains is 'why'? For other folders, I can just see all the files. Why is this different, and are there other folders that are similarly locked down?

I don't see why accessing a SMB shared folder with Windows Explorer would filter out file types.
