Is the second part of Synology's Western Digital Red Plus compatible drive model numbers important?

For instance, the DS1522+ show Western Digital Red Plus model WD101EFBX - 68B0AN0 in the compatibility list.

However, I have yet to find any retailer, the big ones, even Western Digital's site to specify the second part, the "68B0AN0". The first part WD101EFBX is all that's listed anywhere.

I want to ensure I get the right drives that are compatible to ward off any issues. I may drop town to 8 TB drives, but same issue, the hyper specific model number Synology indicates on the combability list.

I've have 4 TB Red Plus drives in my DS216+II for 8 years going strong, so I like them... DS1522+ should be a nice upgrade as my DS216 is really slowing down, nearly full on capacity and just general utilization creep over the years.

Solution
Synology may refuse technical support if the full model number and referenced firmware do not match your drives, and the drives are related to your technical issue (for example, extended rebuild time).

That said, any NAS/Enterprise-rated drive should be fine (avoid SMR technology).

Thanks, my guess is I cannot find the exact model as Western Digital probably makes incremental adjustments to their given Red Plus lines, retaining the primary model but firmware and such will change over time.

CMR drives for sure. Probably shouldn't sweat it much. Just seems like the compatibility list if you were to follow it to a "T" basically marches you into buy their drives. Maybe I'll take a look at them for the DS1522+.
