What is the 'ROD' file hiding in the VMM guest OS structure pls

A single guest OS with a configured vdisk of 12GB.

But hiding in the VMM guest OS directory structure is a multiple of files with the name 'ROD' (1 for the running instance and 1 for each snapshot). Problem is this file is reporting a size of some ~550GB.

Can anyone shed some light pls on just WTH this is pls?
