(Title originally: "You can't fix stupid")
Just discovered someone I though was relatively smart, is not (Or, at least, didn't understand how something was designed to be used!)
Wanted to have someone else beside me test the "Service UPS's Now" display's... One of spares given to fellow, who plugged it into UPS and hit reset button, as explained to him over phone. It was then ready to inform him of an outage....
MyBad: I didn't ask him enough questions... Or obviously explain operation good enough.... I assumed he understood it's use... MyBad!
Text last PM, what, 2-3 weeks after install? "You're box doesn't work".
HUH?
"Your box doesn't work"
What Box? (See, I'd already forgotten!)
"My UPS DIED"
OH! Now I'm on same page!
What did display do?
"It started flashing, but UPS Died anyway!"
What did UPS do?
"I got email from storage unit, saying power failed" but UPS is running, but it obviously Failed-Because I have email to prove that it died! I thought you're box was supposed to prevent that?"
No: It's just an indicator that power had dropped and reset itself... In UPS -- Was batteries ever changed before?
"No"
How old is UPS?
"Real Old Not Sure -- But it's running now, but I got this email ??"
But LED Flashed on Display 'Box'?
"Yes"
Next 10 min spent explaining the "Service UPS Now" use... He's buying a new UPS... (BUT: It's refreshing to realize the display worked exactly as planned!)
! I could imagine that if UPS was on TV, BRay, or Cablebox, (Things that DON'T Email on power failure), this could have continued until it happened while he watched it!
