Corrupt file system?

And now ordered it should be here tomorrow....... Thanks guys!

So the 4 TB Ironwolf Pro is the same price as the non pro?!?! I’d go for the pro in that case too.

Hopefully you purchased a boxed retail drive, not a recertified/renewed drive.

Exactly and yes brand new! Should be here tomorrow. Rather excited!

Okay the new drive will be here later today. Do I access the NAS and look to remove the failed drive from the storage pool before installing the new drive or will it see it as a new drive automatically?

The new drive has arrived, it's now added into the Storage Pool and it’s now repairing the storage pool. Since I took the screen short it’s now at 4.82% and has 4 hours 40 minutes to go.

Things are looking good I think guys! The biggest issue I had was remembering how to remove / attach the side rails in the drive caddy LOL.

Thanks for all the assistance guys, very much appreciated.

The thing I always forget with the DS218+ is do I push up or down the caddy release button/flap: is clip on the caddy or chassis 🤷‍♂️. Much easier on the DS NAS that don't have covers over all bays.

Push it down and let it pop back up :)
I'm just glad I found an allen key that fitted.....

And just to close it all out, now fully operational once more. Thanks for all the help guys.

Indeed, very happy with the situation now. Great to be fully back online again.
Congrats , you and I had the same set of circumstances , nas model , sick (me Lymphoma) , memory loss , one drive failed .
Except I was extremely confused at the time due to lack of oxygen to brain (my Lymphoma was not letting me make Hemoglobin) . Just yesterday my doctor told me I won (for now, as there's no cure for it , but Truxima did the job for now, have to test every 3 months from now on).

Anyways I had one drive go bad and I clicked on some repair setting (the 3 dots in storage pool) and it told me to " remove the drive now, with unit running " BIG MISTAKE , from then on ALL I did made thing go from bad to catastrophic SCREW up by me.
The drive I added , told me to make it a second something" I ended up trying every thing I read inside the nas repair suggestions . I ended up destroying the data . since my red drives were 8.5 years old , I ended up buying 4 new EXOS 16tb and this time I did the SHR format( I like the idea that 8 years from now I can swap one drive that is BIGGER and rebuild from there . I lost so much I wanted to cry over.

So again congrats you fixed your problem with 1 new drive , all I can say is save for the other 3 drives , because it's coming , and IF they are over 5 to 8 years old , PLAN on it. the drive that went bad on me , you could hear the bearings being DRY, yest I tried fixing it outside the nas with RT-Studio , but it could not due to physical damage on the drive platters

good to hear you recovered from sickness and bad drive, as I have from mine . I have my son back copying some key DVD's into the drives that I must have (comedy movies and shows) , but no way am I doing hundreds of DVD's again . most of my stuff is in PRIME and Netflix , the rest is back in the synology.

Sorry to hear, but RAID is never a substitute for a daily backup. Backups are not optional, unless your data is optional.
being 68 years old, and having worked in a computer room with 3030 winchester hard drives in the 80's , allowed me to backup to tapes ;) but the backup game has always been a loosing game for home users as for example I now have 4 16tb drives in that synology , where do I backup to ? . 2 separate 24tb drives in my main computer , but just can never catch up . my " important stuff " like pictures are backed up on the ROCK Mdiscs dvd's , all else is already on dvd's . have you checked out the price of tape drives these days ? . but thank you for the back up answer . ;)

Strange how similarities can show up in life. They reckon for me it was caused by depression, weird but my issues started to go once I was on the antidepressant tablets.
I backup critical files to an external hard drive, but obviously irt doesnt cover everything or my forum.

It is all about your personal risk tolerance - my media library is massive, and I cannot afford to lose it. I maintain a full external backup of it.

These days there are a lot more people on antidepressants, I've been on those since '87 (runs in my blood , can't elaborate in here ) .
I took 2 of the 4 drives did deep formatting in rt-tools to verify the drives 3 of the 4 pass low level formats , that failed and put them in a Terramaster box and have been collecting things from many drives and dvd's and putting them together , from there moving them to the 2, 24tb drives in my big tower. don't forget about your other 3 drives ages.

When my drive failed , i went into my Amazon history and they were 8+ years old.
