DS423 running DSM 7.2.2 not waking up

New here! Hello!
I have a new DS423 and I use it to house video files for my move server (Zidoo media player). Anyway, I also have a DS418j and no issues with it. The issue is, any files/folders on the 423 disappear from the move server until I go to my pc and login to the dashboard. After logging back in, the folders come back! Its likely a hibernation or sleep issue but I mirrored the settings between the two servers and still cannot figure it out.

Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum!

This does indeed sound like a hibernation "issue". Make sure to double check the settings as there are disk and NAS hibernation options.

Can you verify that the NAS is indeed "sleeping" when Zidoo is unable to access the content? In terms that you locate the NAS and hear the drives spin up?

The settings in Control Panel maybe the same but there are packages that override hibernation settings. Does the DS418j have other packages running that the DS423 doesn't?

How does the Zidoo media player access the media library on the NAS? Is it logged in using a file sharing service, like SMB; or using Media Server's DLNA/UPnP service; or something else?

Very true! I dont recall having any additional packages running, I typically use the most basic setting/features since I only use it to store files and movies. I will need to investigate!

In reality, does it really help the HDD longevity by having them go into hibernation? I could simply try turning this off and see what happens?

Edit - the zidoo player uses NFS file sharing I believe. I simply locate the shared drive on the nas through the zidoo and it pulls up the contents of the folder. With the older NAS, I never had issues with the folder disappearing.

You’d be better off protecting the NAS with a UPS.

With Media Player I had to set its advertising interval to the most frequent, 5s, so it was always visible to my Denon amps. But that could’ve been a network or WiFi issue in relaying the broadcast packets. I don’t think there would be the same issue with file sharing like NFS and SMB. Are you using the NAS’s IP address or network / bonjour type name?

I turned off all hibernation settings and it’s still losing the folder? I use the NAS IP address.
Each time I go into the dashboard I need to sign in and it doesn’t remember my password for done reason? I use chrome to access it. Could this be the issue? I’m at a loss!

Anyone have suggestions on my above issue? Thank you so much and happy Thanksgiving!

I'm in the US and it appears 7.3 wont install in my Synology DS423. Maybe it will shortly?? any other suggestions.

Most updates are rolling updates, so it can take up to a month or two before the update will be detected. In case you want a manual update right away you can use the Download Center page to pull the latest update for your DS423 model:
