I could be wrong, but I think after a certain 1.3.1 Threat Prevention version you can't use the Pro version any longer unless you already had it before that particular update.

In any event, Proofpoint should be the way to go for acquiring the PRO license.

Just do a web search for ‘proofpoint et pro licence’. At OPNsense you’ll find it is €749 per year, and there are conditions for getting it.

For me, I get a lot of dropped connection attempts by just enabling Misc Attack and then setting the single DBShield signature to drop. For some more set the 3CORESec signatures to drop, and also the ET CINS signatures. These were the three sets that had the least cross-over and most unique hits. You might want to drop the SCAN signatures in the low risk class, to minimise scanning for potential openings to further probe (let them directly try these blind, rather than scanning and finding what’s available).

But this is off-topic, so I’ll stop here.

I’ve done that. But was only inquiring about the license.

OK. Just saying that ET Open has a fair bit for free, but needs some customising. Not bad if you can’t meet the ET Pro conditions or afford €749 a year.

And just to correct myself, the Misc Attack groups where: ET DROP Dshield; ET CINS; and ET 3CORESec. If anyone else was interested in enabling these to drop connections.

No. I simply did a search for ET Pro license and - believe it or not, Synoforum.com came up as the place to go. So, that is why this conversation started.

Strange. I know it was discussed a few times but seeing the price soon closed any interest.

Listen to me please.

I just joined this service to find out information, NOT to be told that this was discussed BEFORE.

So, please be polite and not rude. I dont appreciate these comments. I am considering stopping my support for synoforum.com

Woah, let’s slow down here. David, while we do welcome new users as well as subscribers, being one does not mean that we appreciate or tolerate this tone of conversation.

Replying to your PM I have explained certain things, so I will not repeat myself here, but members are free to express their opinions, as are you ofc.

Saying this, if we could continue forward in a calm tone sticking to the topic and anything related to it. Truth is that, the Pro license is something that TP package had/has an option and no wonder that you got synoforum as a result hit, but as you can see not much is know about it. One reason is probably the price, but I personally wouldn’t know.

In any event, I think we can agree that this is a difficult topic to discuss in terms of experience with the Pro licensing, so maybe one way could be to open a support ticket with Synology and as a direct question there.

Due to you lengthy experience, I’m sure you have had dealings with them before but just in case, as of recent their initial reply will be an AI generated one, so just heads up.

Synology KB also has no direct info on the Pro licensing so maybe Syno support will be the best option moving forward.

Again, let’s all remain calm, as we will close the topic if any more off-topic replies start showing up.

Another reminder, there is a report feature on the forum if anyone feels there is a need to resolve any issues specifically.

Thank you all!

Nice tip, thanks. But I cannot find the last one - ET 3CORESec. Under which Class/Signature should I search?

Misc Attack (medium). All three are in there.

A while ago I reviewed hits and these three had the best spread. While the large group of ET COMPROMISED was less hit and also mostly covered by the other three. These types of signatures are very frequently updated as they are the current lists of suspicious IP addresses. I do find that TP doesn't flush out old signature versions, so this class grows over time: that's why I wanted to have the slowest growth but with the best cover, hence these three groups and not COMPROMISED.

Re. direction of the original thread: I was trying to back out politely since there was nothing else I could add. If what I wrote was read otherwise then I apologise, it was not meant to be offensive or rude: I try hard to be non-confrontational when posting but I'm also aware that there are others that may later find and follow a thread, so will add info I think will be useful to them. I was surprised that there has been no other discussion of ET PRO elsewhere on the Web.

Hmmm, I don't see it there. Maybe it's because this type of action never made a hit in my system?

How weird. I haven't done anything, as far as I know, to add 3CORESec. Since I routinely backup and uninstall TP, to clear out the old signature versions, I'll do this now and see what happens. This is quite easy: reinstall TP then restore from the TP backup.

Having done the reinstall and restoring my configuration: you're right, the 3CORESec signatures have been removed. That's good to know; thanks for looking in to this :)

Found this discussion elsewhere. 3CORESEC not updating
