Is this a snapshot folder?

Hi,

I am trying to work out whether a folder is a snapshot or not on a DS718+

This is the directory: /var/services/homes/admin/New/00008101-00140D121141001E/Snapshot

within this directory there are lots of directories like 00 0a ... ff

user: admin, group: users (both for Snapshot and its subdirectories)

I understand the advice about not using an admin account/disabling the admin account, I have a reason to use the admin account at this time.

Note: the directory is 'Snapshot' not '#snapshot'. I can't access this folder via /volume1/homes/admin but only via /var/services/homes/admin so perhaps there are configuration issues too?

The filenames in the directory are of this naming format fba233a60acec3715ea1810f28513d1eee1886fd with no extension.

In Snapshot Replication -> Snapshots all shared folders (including 'homes') are listed as 'No Scheduled Protection'. In Replication 'no shared folder replication tasks in the system', Recovery 'no shared folders with snapshots in the system'. In Overview there is no indication of snapshots or replication.

So, I am assuming that this isn't a Synology snaphot, but an ordinary folder called Snapshot, perhaps copied from another f/s. There is a Status.plist in 00008101-00140D121141001E/, so could this be a backup from a mac or iPhone? How can I find out if so?

thanks

Welcome.

Personally I can't see the same on my end, but homes/username/ structure is for the most part connected to the Synology Drive functionality. Sync or Backup. Do you have any task configured via Drive? If so, that folder might suggest versioning/sync snaps that are happening in the background.

Synology Drive Server, Cloud Sync, Hyper Backup and Hyper Backup Vault are not installed (there are not many packages installed at all and only from 'Synology Inc.' published/trusted repository. Snapshot Replication & Replication Service are installed.
Control Panel -> Task Scheduler: There are snapshot entries (owner: root, action: snapshot, task: snapshot) for all 4 shared directories, including 'homes' with next runtime set to midnight tomorrow. admin seems to reside under 'homes' - /var/services/homes/admin, however the only entry that has the 'enabled' tick is S.M.A.R.T. Test. I also cannot find any reference to snapshot in Log centre.
Perhaps these entries are created when installing Replication Service or simply by default?

I do not see this example on any user account on any device running SR. Maybe this was an older SR task that has been terminated since then?
