Unfortunately, on Feb 13th, we got info that the preview version will be delayed. For the past 9 months, we haven't had any intel on any new features apart from those that were presented during last year's worldwide conference and some webinars in 2020, more on those here. Loki - log aggregation platform from the creators of Grafana
This article will be about running Loki, the new Grafana Labs platform for log aggregation. What Loki offers is to present the logs that you can then query, parse, and compare inside Grafana! How cool is that? Metric and logs in one place, as it should be. As with all platforms that I use, this one will also run inside Docker. (feel free to skip the intro if you are not interested until you hit the title Grafana + Loki + Promtail stack (GLP)) Continue reading...

Synology DS1520+ vs DS1019+ NAS – Which Should You Buy? When it comes to buying a robust desktop NAS solution for a professional consumer or small business, Synology has always ranked pretty high in terms of popularity. Providing a well-defined portfolio of solutions that tailor towards different priorities, be they power, storage or efficiency, you would be hard pushed to find a decent solution in their current series that doesn’t suit your needs. However, when it comes to 5 bay NAS solutions in 2020/2021, the available Synology solutions are actually quite thin on the ground. In fact, the 2 most relevant solutions available are the brand new Synology DS1520+ and the Synology DS1019+ (released in mid-2019). With both solutions serving...
Migrate your Plex setup from one Synology NAS to another
In case you are wondering can this be done, yes it can! Checking Plex support site you will find detailed instructions on how to do this. For this article, I will focus on the Synology NAS solution as a Plex server of choice. Before I continue I would just like to say what I did exactly and why. The NAS in question is DS918+ which was my main Plex server. What I wanted to do was to get this NAS up and running as a new NAS (fresh install) but instead of HDDs (4x4TB), I want to run it with SSDs (2x500GB at the moment). Continue reading...
Synology DS1520+ vs DS920+ NAS – Which Should You Buy? The Synology 2020 series is a range that went from relative obscurity to practically being almost entirely fleshed out in less than 3 months. Featuring an enormous range of desktop NAS solutions, mid-range rackmounts and PCIe upgrade cards, they have improved a number of the key devices in their product portfolio this year. However, two of the very last diskstation NAS solutions in this range have been released just over six weeks apart and although arriving in differing drive numbers and price points, the new Synology DS1520+ that was recently revealed is arguably one of the best mid-range Intel-powered solutions the brand has released. That said, many potential and existing...
