My NAS fell into the bathtub. Will it be ok after I let it dry off?

Synology says:
I'm sorry to hear about your NAS! Based on the official Synology documentation, water exposure—especially full submersion—can cause significant damage to both the NAS hardware and the hard drives inside. Simply letting the device dry off is not guaranteed to make it safe or functional again, and powering it on while any moisture remains can cause further damage or data loss.
Here’s what you should do next:
- Do NOT power on the NAS. Powering on a wet device can cause short circuits and permanent damage.
- Remove all drives from the NAS chassis immediately. Let both the NAS and the drives dry thoroughly in a dry, ventilated area for several days. You may consider using silica gel packs or a dehumidifier to help remove moisture.
- Do not attempt to use the NAS until you are certain it is completely dry. Even then, there is a risk of internal corrosion or damage.
- Data Recovery: If the NAS does not power on or the drives are not recognized after drying, you may need to attempt data recovery. Synology provides a step-by-step guide for recovering data from a NAS that is no longer accessible. You can find detailed instructions here: How to fix hard drive failure and retrieve the data from your hard drives.
- Warranty Considerations: Please note that water damage is typically not covered under warranty. If you need to file a warranty claim, review the RMA Visual Inspection Procedures and warranty terms for your device.
