Hi,
Thought I'd begin purposefully by asking for some help. Rarely will I be able to help anyone, as people here obviously are way more knowledgeable about NAS than I can ever be. For me, NAS is purely for media: movies and music. Though it also works out for my accountant to keep a backup of all my production house financials.
Now to the point. I am genuinely struggling to move within Synology, but don't want to make a regrettable decision. Since 2016, I have had the DS916+, which at that time seemed best suited for multimedia. It has served me well, to be honest, but age has certainly slowed its wheels. Moving on to a DS1525+ would have been a no-brainer for me, but Synology has made that difficult. One, restricting me to its HDDs, two, the hardware isn't a massive upgrade. Already, Synology is expensive in Mumbai, compared to the West or even the East, maybe. This prompted me to look at Terramaster F6-424 Max and F4-424 Pro. They seem to be regarded very well for hardware, which helps, given the media size and quality expectations.
While DS916+ will be there for backup, etc, I want to make this next one my main go-to for entertainment, downloading, et al. I do not have any complex business needs like hosting, mail server... I have tons and tons of movies, music and books. If I do make this shift, will Synology and Terramaster be able to talk to each other, maybe not intimately and seamlessly, just for quick transfers and access? Or is there wisdom in staying within the Synology fold?
A soft push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
