UPS shutdown procedure

Can someone please explain what the UPS shutdown procedure looks like?

My DS720+ is connected to NUTS. To test the setup, I have it plugged into mains power at the moment.

I initiate upsmon -c fsd on the server. The NAS notifies me by email that it’s running on battery. The status light flashes and both disk are spinning and their lights remain on. Eventually clients, server, and UPS shutdown as expected.

I understand it’s not a perfect test because the NAS still has power even after the UPS shuts down, but it does not appear to be in a standby state at any point. I also understand the UPS is still reporting plenty of battery life even though it received the low battery signal. Is it safe/normal to disconnect power in this state or is the NAS waiting for something else to happen before completely going into standby?

When I plug the UPS back in and turn the server back on the NAS restarts and resumes normal operation. I can test it by plugging it into the UPS to see if it shuts down gracefully when it loses power, but wanted a second opinion before doing that.

I tested it with “Time before Synology NAS enters Standby Mode” set to Same as server and Customize time (30s). No difference.

No need for FSD. Test it properly. Pull the main on the UPS. NAS should suspend per your settings,

With no other details on your NUT set up, we can only speculate.
