Today I would like to focus on a nice and elegant solution to backup your mobile device and not pay anything (if you own a compatible Synology NAS that is) that you might pay with any other solutions that you might be using. Just to keep things clear, we will talk about backing up only your mobile content, not the OS itself (like Android or iOS). Considering that data is more important then the OS itself this makes sense and on top of that having a valid backup is always important, because as I said in some of my previous articles, nobody like to do backups, but they sure love them when needed. Right? Continue reading...
Synology RS3621xs+, RS362RP1xs and RS4021xs+ NAS Coming Soon
Synology RS3621xs+, RS4021xs+ and RS362RP1xs NAS Revealed – a Bit! Good news for those of a business storage frame of mind that take their hardware seriously, Synology will later this month reveal their latest three entries into the powerful Rackstation XS series, the new RS3621xs+, RS3621RPxs and RS4021xs+ NAS. These all form the newest generation of 12-bay and 16-Bay solutions from the brand and serve as successors to the 2017 generation RS3617xs+, RS3617RPxs and RS4017xs+ that are widely considered some of the most powerful and performance-ready solutions that the brand provides (although recently overshadowed by the SA3400, SA3600 and UC3200 solutions of 2019/2020). Details on these three solutions are incredibly thin of the ground...
The Synology DS1621+ vs QNAP TS-h973AX NAS Compared The line between small-medium business (SMB) and prosumers working from home has blurred considerably in 2020, due to the increase in people working from home. Alongside this, the growth in popularity owning your own private server has likewise increased to a point whereby the necessity of spending up to £1,000 for the privilege does not sound holy unreasonable. Despite the affordability and ease of using simple third party cloud services, most users are becoming wise to their financial and performance inferiority to a solid NAS system to house their growing collection of data. Two brands that have largely dominated this industry are Synology and QNAP with their range of NAS drive...
Synology DVA3221 NAS Review
The Synology DVA3221 AI and GPU Enabled NVR NAS for Surveillance One of the most popular and continuously evolving ways that users want a NAS drive is for home and business surveillance. Whether it is the security of family or for much more enterprise requirements, CCTV and surveillance solutions are very much the vogue right now in the NAS server industry. A competent and fully-featured NVR solution is not a cheap thing and although fantastic surveillance software is available on even lower-tier budget NAS solutions, but if you want to get set some serious NAS based surveillance in place, then these are going to cost you a little more. Synology currently has one of the best surveillance software applications available in the market...
Choosing the Best Virtual Machine NAS Drive of 2020 For those that are not aware, a Virtual Machine (or VM) is a near completely digital alternative to a physical-local-PC in the traditional sense. Yes, you still need a physical user interface (ie a monitor/screen and peripheral controls like a Keyboard, mouse and/or touch screen) and hardware terminal (even something as simple as a phone) but after that, what you have access to is a purely virtual copy of a typical PC that allows you to access a single desktop from ANYWHERE in the world that has an internet connection. Add to that the advantages of easy system duplication, snapshots to near-instantly reverse software choices and effectively limitless options of operating system...
Switching from Google Photos to a Synology or QNAP NAS
Making the Switch from Google Photos to NAS As many of you might know, Google has recently announced a change in its policy of allowing Android phone users to be able to backup up their photos without limits to their respective Google Cloud accounts. Till recently, if you were an Android phone user, you never really had to worry about the photos on your phone filling your capacity as android would periodically tell you that you can backup your photos to your personal cloud and free up space on your device. However at the start of 2021, Google will no longer allow unlimited photo backups from mobile devices and although the current photos that you have backed up will be safe, there are serious long-term repercussions that Android phone...
Synology RS1221+ & RS1221RP+ Data Sheet Revealed
The Synology RS1221+ and RS1221RP+ Rackstation NAS get closer to Release Good news for those of you who are STILL waiting for the release of the compact 8-Bay Synology rackmount, the RS1221+ nears release and we now have the official data sheet on the device with a release date scheduled for mid January 2021. Yes, the Synology RS1221+ (and also the RS1221RP+ of course with it’s redundant PSU) have been waiting in the wings for a while now, right the way back to the incidental leak of a RS1220+ last year that came to nothing. The appearance of the RS1221+ was already largely confirmed back in October 2020 (thanks again, to Stashman2000 on reddit) and now this release is becoming a great deal more concrete. Arriving with the internal...
Best 8-Bay NAS Drive of the Year
Choosing the Best 8-Bay NAS Drive of 2020 Hasn’t data storage come a long, LONG way! In just a hand full of years we have gone from the marvels of having gigabytes in our pocket to being able to store hundreds of terabytes on our own home servers! Network Attached Storage (NAS) has been improving year on year and although the hardware power inside and the performance outside has changed more and more, the general demands of what the end-user wants have changed very little. Most NAS users (especially business users, but Prosumers too) want a robust, solid and reliable storage system that is easy to use, does what it promises and is a solid investment for the future. Alot of businesses have slight hesitation moving away from 3rd party...
