All Synology Store HDDs Out of Stock?

Hello everyone,

Has anyone shopped online at the Synology Store lately? All of their HDDs are out of stock and have been out of stock for over a month.

I can understand that due to high demand they might be out of stock of maybe two or three different drives, but not all of them at once. This seems very strange.

Does anyone have any information on what's going on behind the scenes? Is this a regular occurrence this time of year? Did Santa scoop them all up for presents?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

B&H Photo has been a reliable source, at least that's been our experience over the past several months.

I have just got new hat3320 drives in today from the Store. No issues.

So how long did it take for your order to arrive? You must have placed your order over a month ago.

Ordered them on Monday, and UPS delivered them today by noon.
Well that's excellent service. I've also experienced something similar from Synology but not quite as fast as I reside in Canada.

However you ordered the drives is between you and Synology but it's good to hear they're taking good care of you.

The initial reason for the post is that I'm wondering if anyone knows if they're shutting down their online store. Having the ability to order parts and drives and have them delivered quickly directly from Synology is a bonus and just good business.

My current online drive search has revealed that half of the retailers carry what I'm looking for, and of the half that do, 75% are overpriced. There was only one that was on par with Synology's online store price. The only difference is that I have to pay shipping if I buy from Synology which isn't that bad since their service is good.

Thanks Rusty.

Rusty is a Synology partner. I suspect he gets top tier service. You and I get "out of stock" service and extended delivery times.
Yeah, I thought so. But, besides the continual "out of stock" service, the delivery times up here in Canada are very good.

Also, my online drive search as shown their prices are the lowest and on par with only one other retailer. Too bad they don't offer free shipping.

Last time I checked, shipping was free on orders over $200... which a HDD should cover. My pricing experience is that Synology has locked approved vendors at the same price as the Synology Store. So higher, possibly, but not lower.

The free shipping is probably only offered for the continental US. It's been awhile since I've purchased anything over $200 US from them but it might be offered to Canada. Thanks for the tip.

You would think that, but no. Not in this case. In fact I pay full retail Store price. I'm guessing the only reason this was fast was a) it was off a German store, and b) the proximity (only a 2 day delivery distance).

Just to be clear, you ordered your drives from the Synology website store and not an authorized Synology reseller in Germany? I also assume they were shipped directly from Synology. Is that correct?

I don't mean to pry as where you purchase your hardware is none of my business, but I just wanted to confirm if you placed your order directly with Synology. The reason I ask is because I submitted a support ticket to Synology asking why all their drives are listed as "out of stock" when they are still available for purchase.

This is the response I received from Synology:

"We aren't selling them on our website currently. I asked about this internally when I noticed the same thing and there's no current plan to bring them back. That could always change in the future but historically our drives have needed to be purchased from a reseller (just like our NAS) so that's what you would need to do."

So if you placed your order directly with Synology from your location in Germany, then they've decided to sell drives on a regional basis which explains why I'm unable to order them here in Canada.

Thank you Rusty.

Because here's what every drive looks like at the Synology Store

Correct. If you check the Store and choose Germany you will see all models are in stock
