Unlike Seagate's warranty, which is based on serial number, it appears that Synology's HDD, SSD and NVMe warranty applies only to the original buyer. Am I reading this correctly? Has anyone here encountered this issue when buying or selling 'used' Synology storage media?

Solution
Warranty as specified in consumer protection legislation ( in EU 2 years) is transfered with the products (by law).
Extended warranty may be excluded from that rule, but Synology is not 100% clear on this in their warranty statement. It is quite unusual to restrict this. An original proof of purchase will probably work to get the warranty if needed, regardless of the owner.

Good idea regarding proof of purchase. Thanks for that. But it does create an uncomfortable situation for those of us who 'rotate' storage media by policy. Unfortunately, the U.S. consumer protection laws around warranties (Magnuson–Moss, UCC, state law) do not force a company to allow warranty transfer to a new owner.
