Hi everyone, i'm new here and i'm looking for some help

I tired to update my Synology DS218+ recently, but since then, it won't boot up. The blue power led just keep flashing.
I'm trying to connect to putty with usb-ttl usb adapter to see boot log bu i'm no getting any output. I'm not sure if my wiring is correct. Currently, i'm using ping 2/4/6 on the motherboard header.

Does anyone know the correct pinout for the DS218+ serial header, or have advice on how to bring my NAS back to life ? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Sorry for my bad language...

  • Pin 2 = GND --> GND on USB to TTL cable/adapter
  • Pin 4 = TXD --> RXD on USB to TTL cable/adapter (3.3v)
  • Pin 6 = RXD --> TXD on USB to TTL cable/adapter (3.3v)

Putty settings: 115200/8/N/1…

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately nothing is displayed. I'm looking for a .bin file for 218+ to flash the motherboard chip.

What kind of cable/adapter are you using? Normally it is the controller chip on the DOM that breaks. In rare cases a faulty flash during DSM update may break the bios though. Which DSM version did you update from/to?

7.2 I think, I don't remember very well (it was last year). I use a TTL to USB adapter and a CH3341 (I have both).

OK, I cross checked on the bios files for the DS218+ and it has not changed since DSM 6.2.4, so it is not very likely, that a bios update took place during your DSM update.

My rescue advice (in named sequence) would be:
1) Try another power supply, to rule out that you have a defect power supply
2) Try another USB to TTL device, preferably a proper USB to UART TTL FTDI 3.3v cable and see if that makes any difference in getting serial output
3) Check you DOM
3.a) See if you can read the DOM from a PC
3.b) If DOM is not readable, replace the DOM or boot from an USB stick
4) If all of the above fails, connect your CH341B programmer and read out the current bios (multiple times!) and write that image back to the bios again, and see if that remedies your boot issue

If 4) fails, construct a new DS218+ bios binary from the bios.ROM contained in the .PAT (PM me, if you need assistance for that) and write that image back to the bios.

Hi did this get fixed? I'm in a very similar situation but with a DS218 so after help with the bios file and reading flashing etc.
my post is here so as not to take over this thread. Bricked DS218

TIA
