Upside Down? - DS725+: $416 - Additional 4GB RAM: $370

Looking at B&H this morning to assist a friend with a DS725+ purchase. I suggested considering a 4GB RAM upgrade. Then sticker shock... How is it possible that a RAM upgrade equal to the RAM provided in the NAS will cost just $46 less than the NAS?

Was looking at a site a while back and then decided to strip a computer for its parts instead of purchasing anew. Also Lucked out on display card repair: gambled on new - good heat sink compound on Intermittent card saved NVIDIA card replacement $$$.
Things are definitely in seller’s favor right now. Re-capped a tv supply for neighbor last week.

I’ve already developed a couple plans of attack to react to a NAS or computer Failure here that’s not repairable. Ain’t pretty, but do-able.

My actions reminds me of way my bosses used to approach dealing with failures.

Money is tight. Components are overpriced! Moore’s law has been upended by corporate greed!
All I can do to show my displeasure with this: DELAY Purchasing, wait for lower prices. Make them come to you. Extend the use of operational equipment you have. Be happy what you have - Works!
