The Synology RS3626xs is a 2U rack-mounted NAS positioned just below the RS4826xs+ — same physical chassis and form factor, but with a less powerful CPU, less RAM, and a smaller maximum expansion ceiling.

Hardware at a Glance
  • CPU: Intel Xeon D-1726, 6-core/12-thread, 2.9/3.5 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB DDR4 ECC UDIMM, expandable to 48 GB across 6 slots
  • Drive bays: 12 internal (3.5" SATA HDD or 2.5" SATA SSD), expandable to 36 via two RX1225RP expansion units
  • Networking: 2x 10GbE RJ-45 built-in, 2x PCIe Gen4 x8 slots for additional NICs, 1x out-of-band management port
  • USB: 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1
  • Power: 550W redundant PSU, ~148W under load
  • Noise: 38.8 dB(A) — notably quieter than the RS4826xs+ (46.3 dB)
  • Form factor: 2U, 88 × 482 × 724 mm, 14.5 kg

Performance
Synology rates it at over 6,300/3,700 MB/s sequential read/write and 115,000+ 4K random write IOPS. Interestingly the sequential throughput is marginally higher than the RS4826xs+ on paper, though the random IOPS are lower, reflecting the weaker CPU. M.2 NVMe SSD cache is supported via add-in cards without consuming drive bays.

Who Is This For?
The RS3626xs sits in the same enterprise rack category as the RS4826xs+, with the same reliability features — redundant PSUs, hot-swap everything, HA clustering, and out-of-band management. The practical differences versus the RS4826xs+ are fewer drive bays at max expansion (36 vs 48), less RAM headroom (48 GB vs 96 GB), and a lighter CPU. If you don't need petabyte-scale storage or the highest VM density, it's the more cost-efficient entry into this product family.

Software Highlights
Same DSM feature set as the RS4826xs+ with some capacity differences: up to 90 IP cameras (vs 125), 3,300 Synology Drive users (vs 5,100), and 3,900 MailPlus users (vs 6,000). High Availability, storage tiering, VMware/Hyper-V/XenServer certification, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel are all present.

Drive Compatibility
As with all current enterprise Synology units, compatible drives are mandatory. Check the Synology Compatibility List before purchasing.
