C2 Backup C2 is down today

you probably noticed: several Synology services are down today.

C2 was never world-class. Just a "me too" service. Hard to believe there is no rollover across sites.

If you look across the C2 locations you'll see that all have issues. Frankfurt has a Major Outage while both Seattle and Taiwan have Partial Outage. Interestingly, the non-geographic Active Insight service has a Major Outage, so draw from that what you will.

I've not overly read-up about the architecture, but it could be that there is regional resilience in data centres, but each region is standalone. That might make sense, given the data protections and regulations afforded to a data centre are those for the country within which it is located. It could also be failover mechanisms rely on technologies/heartbeat responses that only allow up to a few hundred kilometres., max.

Still the service looks to be having an extended lie-down for now. I'm sure there'll be service update messages. Ahem!


I wonder if they were adding extra storage and accidentally used drives that're not on the approved list

Apparently Snapshot Replication is not a thing with C2.

No worries... probably just a minor ransomware intrusion.
Wondering how those Active Protect appliances are holding out...

At noon local time, Active Insight was already down and config auto backup was not working. So it's 9h and counting so far at least.

Glad I'm not using C2, using, already 8 years, TransIP Stack and it was never down, fast in up/download (for a Cloud service).
