Anyone have any recommendations for a replacement for C2 password as Synology is dropping it. Too bad they don't just add it to the package store, so all our info is stored on our Nas

Got the email today..damn I as so embedded in C2 Password and like it a lot. I'll be watching this thread!.

OK so Bitwarden is the obvious replacement.

I have over 500 passwords in C2 so getting them into Bitwarden is the next challenge. I tried CSV exporting and importing but it didn't work. There is a script on Github someone has written that facilitates the process but it's Linux and Windows only and I have a feeling it's going to need a lot of editing after importing.

So for now I'm running both Bitwarden and C2 in parallel in my browser and every time C2 is called upon Bitwarden picks up the prompt and saves the password. It's working fine like this.

We have a year so this method should be sufficient.

Bitwarden has certain CEO changes that are pushing towards potential commercial only plans in the future. This might also complicate things for Vaultwarden and its compatibility with BW’s mobile clients. So, that needs to be taken into consideration.

Ofc for paid customers nothing changes (apart from some pricing).

I have started testing (migration and usage) with https://www.aliasvault.net/ and I have to say it works great.

Fully open (free mobile apps) and while it’s still in beta it’s in very active development.

Might be worth looking into it. Haven’t tested content migration from C2.

O'boy, anyway we go it seems we're out of luck. I put in feedback and asked them to make one that resides on our Nas alone. What we need is a nas that doesn't rely on outside support for its apps to function. Maybe it's time to build another RAS-PI server!!

It seems anyway you turn at present there’s a change to something you use. Whether it’s pricing, culling and forcing features, or just withdrawing services.

With C2 Password it was launched and Im struggling to recall much noise about it afterwards. So it didn’t strike me as even loved when it was first released. I’m a long time 1Password user, where they ditched local vaults so users had to have cloud-stored vaults. They never recanted on this, which is why I’m still on V7. I did try Vault/Bitwarden but am hesitant to be responsible for the database of my passwords.

And now Plex. I’ve a lifetime pass but if the latest nudge policy of getting people onto recurring subscriptions doesn’t work then this might go badly.

Interestingly, I'd bet you're using a self-hosted password manager.

Indeed. Same with C2 Transfer. I’m not surprised they are killing them off tbh. I am surprised they are not moving them to full commercial mode but I guess they did their research and came to the conclusion there is just a lot of it out there already.

If Bitwarden official software (either mobile apps or web browser addons) will change in such a way that my Vaultwarden will not work anymore, then it's a big problem for me.
I am running Vaultwarden couple years already as a docker container on my NAS, for all family members, so about 5 accounts, everything works great. Being able to have "shared" collections is a great feature too.

So let us know after your deep testing, if aliasvault would be a good option, if it§s possible to selhost, has all or most functions like Bitwarde/Vaultwarden has etc.

Atm it has all of it, apart from collections and shared options that BW/VW offers
