The provision of a hack for non-genuine Synology hard drives is greatly appreciated.
I have now found the workaround for my RS3621xs+ with the following configuration:
support_disk_compatibility="no"

Managed by:
Bash:
sed -i 's/support_disk_compatibility="yes"/support_disk_compatibility="no"/g' /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf
sed -i 's/support_disk_compatibility="yes"/support_disk_compatibility="no"/g' /etc/synoinfo.conf

What exactly does this "hack" accomplish/enable?

Allows you to run non-synology drives on that locked out system! Good for you!

Kinda reminds me of hack I used often on Premiere Pro CS6 to get Nvidia’s Mercury Playback Engine to run automatically (so as not needing to pre render effects in Premiere Pro, in order to play effects back!)…This hack prevented you from purchasing an insanely $$$ display card that was on the list! You found the Area, and added your non-supported NVIDIA display card with Cuda Processor and extra RAM and added that display into the list….
And Surprise! NO MORE PRE-RENDERING FOR MOST EFFECTS needed for smooth -Instant playback! 😘
Worked perfectly for most NVidia cards. All you had to do was also hack the display fan speed to maximum at all times, as Mercury Playback used all available Display Cuda Processors to process video effects — and generated lots of instant heat to do so! Fan hack was essential to prevent overheating.

My OLD NAS’s doesn’t have the need for the Synology hack. But I appreciate the efforts for it!!!!

And look forward to future hacks that might affect me!

It turns off the drive compatibility hurdle. Working from the CLI, it substitutes "no" for "yes" in those strings for the two configuration files.

It's easily reversed.
Does this basically mean any spindle drive can then be used? (That might sound like a dumb question)
