Helllo all

I Hope you are Well.

This is my First Post here so.....

I have my First Synology Nas, a DS925+ including 3 x 16TB Plus HDD.

I have my Backup Routine sorted, I Backup the Nas to an External HDD Every Day (Hyper Backup) and then Backup my HTPC Every Sunday (ABB).

I have Created the Recovery Media on a USB Stick which works, however, I would like to get the Recovery Media to Boot from the PXE Server on the Nas.

I have Setup the DHCP Server on the Nas as the one on my ISP supplied Router is Very Basic and Slow.

I have also Enabled the TFTP Server on the Nas.

I followed the Instructions outlined in the following Document:

https://global.download.synology.co...enu/ABB_Recovery_Media_Creation_Guide_enu.pdf

However, I receive an Error when I Boot from PXE:

I saw a Post by @Rusty saying that he had a Guide and would Post it in the Resources Section but I am unable to find it, the Post was from 2019 though so I do not know if it would be outdated by now.

I would appreciated any Help in getting this Working.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Welcome

However, I receive an Error when I Boot from PXE:
Does this mean you are unable to boot PXE at all, or do you get an IP and actually select the ABB bootable and that results with the error above?

Legacy or UEFI boot in BIOS? (have you tried to alter that?)

Hello @Rusty

Thanks for the Welcome, it is appreciated.

In the Picture above, at the Top, you can see the IP Address of the DS925+ so it is getting the IP Address.

The PC is UEFI which I have not changed as the Recovery Media was Created with UEFI in mind.

When I Boot the PC I select the Boot Options and Select PXE Boot.

It then proceeds to Boot from PXE, says it is Loading the Files, then I receive the above Error.

I just received a Reply from Synology Support:

It seems you encountered a known issue that was recorded internally.

No idea what the Issue is, I have asked for clarification.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Well, not sure if this is an ABB issue, the ISO file problem. If the boot up is failing and the 0xc0000225 would indicate BCD problem, but did the ISO build up passed with no issues?

ADK and PE steps were not an issue?

Also, ISO works with "legacy" as well. Can you try just as a test to boot in legacy just to see if it will make any difference?

Hello @Rusty

I just received an Update from Synology Support:

The issue you are experiencing is related to PXE boot failure under UEFI BIOS. Other users have encountered similar problems with the same error code. Unfortunately, we do not have a confirmed timeline for a fix at this moment. I will escalate this matter to our internal development team and follow up to expedite a resolution.

When I am able I will try the Legacy Boot and see what happens.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Hello

Quick Update.

I just checked the BIOS in my HTPC and it seems that the only Option is UEFI, there is no Legacy Option.

The Motherboard is:

ROG STRIX B760-I GAMING WIFI

Thanks

Kevin

Tnx for the update.

This is unfortunate indeed. While there is no "timeline" doesn't mean it won't be soon.

Hello @Rusty

True, hopefully Sooner rather than Later.

I guess it is Time for my Least Favourite Hobby, Waiting :(

Thanks

Kevin

Been down the PXE road w/ Synology already, and yes, we use(d) an Arris modem at that site. It will be interesting to see if your Legacy Boot works.

Hello @7Natives

Unfortunately, my Motherboard does not have a Legacy Boot Option, only UEFI which is annoying.

My only option is to wait for Synology to rework the ABB Recovery Media Creator to fix the issues with Booting with UEFI.

Kevin

After going down the very long road to a very small house with Synology, we decided to surrender. We took down the Arris modem and put in AT&T's freebie. There the problem has settled out — for now. The struggle continues at the Spectrum site where their freebie modems have been in use for some time.

Personally, I don't see much the customer can do as long as the ISP's lock users out of their own equipment because it's connected to their plant. The ISP's are generally notorious for poor equipment, poor service, poor maintenance, and failing to update their equipment for good reason.
