Unable to recover DS1618+ using ABB-DSM backup

Have DS1618+ that was backing up to DS1821+ using Active Backup for Business Agent (DSM). Ransomware completely wiped the DS1618+ back to factory. I followed these steps given by support:

Follow these steps to restore the DS1618+ from the DS1821+, assuming you performed a full NAS backup:

Install DSM, install Hyper Backup on your DS1618+. Open Hyper Backup.
Click Restore (it looks like an arrow going around a clock counterclockwise) and select Entire System. You will be redirected to Control Panel.
Click Restore System and select the restoration source where your backup data are stored.
Follow the wizard to complete the restoration.

Everything goes fine until clicking "Restore" at the Recover Summary screen. Then I get window that pops up and says:

"The DSM version on the DiskStation is incompatible with the backup. Please update this DiskStation to 7.2-64570 or above version. You can download the latest version of DSM from Download Center."

If the DSM version is 7.3.2-86003 is will say "Please update this DiskStation to 7.3.2-86003".
If its using 7.3.2-86009 it will say "Please update this DiskStation to 7.3.2-86009"

The Source (DS1821+) is running DSM version 7.3.2-86009.

Then there is a "Browse" button to locate the DSM version. It does not matter what version you browse to, it will always load and move to the next popup that will say:

"Please pay attention to the following and try again.
Version outdated

* Update Active Backup for Business on the restoration source to version 12321 or above before continuing with the system restoration here."

Then there is an OK button that takes you back. There version of ABB is well past the 12321.

I am completely lost! Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome!

Install DSM, install Hyper Backup on your DS1618+. Open Hyper Backup.
The images above are from a DSM recovery wizard, and considering that you have used ABB to back up the NAS, not sure why the recommendation was to install HB. While HB can do a full bare metal backup, so can ABB, so using one or the other will matter.

The left image indicates that the installed DSM version (on the NAS that needs recovery) is not up to date. The image on the right side indicates that ABB on the backup NAS needs to be updated as well. So these are two separate issues.

The image on the left has a DSM version value listed on that summary window, but the pop-up is covering it, so what is the detected version from the backup that you have connected to back to 1821+? That version of better needs to be installed on the 1618 before this recovery can be completed.

I will update both NAS Units to the newest version available today. Then I will try again.

As you can see, it does not matter if NAS source and destination are fully up to date in version or not. Same error is generated.

I agree with your "not sure why the recommendation was to install HB." It made no sense to me. All the instructions from Syno Rep does is use HB to link to System Recovery in control panel:

Turns out this is a known problem with Synology Active Backup for Business. Support must access the Source NAS and apply a patch. I am waiting for them to do that, then I will report back with results.

Ticket is already been in play on this for 11 days! Support is just now getting around to providing a solution. I took the issue to this forum since I was not getting any help from the Synology Support Ticket. I have now even gone as far as to pay well over $1,000 for a Synology Premium Support contract on the source NAS. I am still waiting for them to provide the key so I can get that ball rolling, otherwise I am at the mercy of Standard Support.
