Important notes

  1. Your Synology NAS may not notify you of this DSM update because of the following reasons. If you want to update your DSM to this version now, please click here to update it manually.
    • The update is not available in your region yet. The update is expected to be available for all regions within the next few days, although the time of release in each region may vary slightly.
    • Your DSM is working fine without having to update. The system evaluates service statuses and system settings to determine whether it needs to update to this version.
  2. This update will restart the device.

Fixed Issues

  1. Fixed mutiple security vulnerabilities.
Notes:

Unspecified security vulnerability fixes, with the important update suffix, usually means that there will be CVEs issued and Synology security alerts in the near future.

Loaded SMB and -2 on experimental NAS (720+), then tested with all DS programs I normally use, from iPhone... and access via W7-64. No issues... Stills sees 3rd party Ram and eSata system. SMB update on all NAS's (waiting a bit before -2 on others)
Noticing that after 15 or so minutes both DS Finder & W7 became more sluggish to access after -2 .. Not seen on other 2 NAS with SMB only update. as is Synology Assistant seeming to take longer.

longer it ran, after -2 Update, the slower it became.... to the point where I could no longer logon.... So I pushed he power button and it did a clean shut down... waited 30 seconds, then started NAS up again.... SA login a bit slower (Starting Services)... When in -- was greeted with:

Because of abnormal power failure or storage pool reassembling, data scrubbing is running on Storage Pool 1 automatically to ensure data consistency. To cancel data scrubbing, please go to Storage Manager > Storage and expand the storage pool on which data scrubbing is performed, and then click Cancel.

Brief look-see on NAS: still sees eSATA system, ram... But it;s definitely Scrubbing... letting it sit... for a few hours... Have to take Neighbor to get his car in Asheville anyway.... This is the NAS (720+) that is ALL SSD: SHR & R/W Cach, ext eSATA SSD.

My Update procedure: Before Update: Login, check and test things, and verify all DS Programs run correctly BEFORE UPDATE....
DO UPDATE....
And then Test everything again..... At first, after update, only a slight delay in accessing was observed.... After 15 or so minutes it became more pronounced, and by 30 min, even SA would not connect..(timeout).. I do have notifications enabled, and NO unusual emails were received. (one Unable to complete Shared Folder Sync email was received, but that is a normal occurrence during Updates.. Next time it runs, after update, it will complete)...

Off to Neighbor's... I'll check again on my return....

I have updated my DS218+ first. At the time it had little doing, it’s mostly holding backups (HB and ABB), and this went OK. It then started (continued?) doing a data scrub. Checking and SMB was already updated to the version released today.

I then went to my DS1520+. It’s doing more, and most of the time, such as docker services like Home Assistant. This also went OK but… Container Manager was still re-starting/installing when I logged in. It took quite a while to complete container startup. While waiting I saw SMB had an update flagged but wasn’t yet applied, so I opted to click the update button.

I would just let the update take time, don’t rush to reboot mid-update. Both my NAS are back up and running fine. USB 2.5 GbE ports came up and working as before.

update on virtual, 224, 723, 425, and x18 models, all good so far

Back.. One login still sluggish, but 2nd admin login good ??? Still doing scrubbing, but says BOTH SHR SSD drives are Healthy (As Are R/W Caches)....Dunno... Letting it sit for longer time.... Beginning to suspect drive data corruption issue ???? Don't want to do much until scrubbing is done... Still follows this one NAS, but showing signs of life. ???

Scrubbing finished... Was cause of slow login... Main Login (actually both Logins) now quick.... ?? Checked info on scrubbing... NO Info... System 'Snappy' now....
??????
Going to start doing tests.... Could it be that a Scrub is part of this ? Never saw this type of action ever before, and drives all appear ok...
Smart tests done on all supported drives... No issues found...

Did Smart tests that I can do.... Passed successfully... No issues posted... OK...

OK... someone else post something... I'm now Guessing as to what happened! ALL ACTS FINE NOW... I'm Willing to rule this was a fluke, if someone else says so.... ABSOLUTELY Unusual occurance!

Only bcause the first NAS went so bad... & Because I have a 3rd NAS, I did the second.... 720+ update with -2!

SECOND 720+ NAS (With HDD, SSD SHR eSATA & RAM & R/W Cache) -2 was updated FINE!! NO ISSUES!!! No Degrade of operation over extended time after upgrade! SMART HDD SHR test OK! I now assume the degradation of Login and access was due to the Drive Issues (Scrubbing) that were being addressed at the time... 2X 720+'s NOW FINE!!!!!

Revisit an hour or more later.
No subsequent issues. All at -2: are working fine

Just to be a bit anal. Tonight did multiple SMART TESTS on media that ended up going into an automatic scrubbing this morning after the -2 install with no notification. And other things to try and break it. Unable to. Can honestly say I have no idea what the issue was this morning during the -2 update... And again the following morning.. 2x Extended Smart passes per SHR SSD... Still Healthy.. OK
Phew!-
