Enable Memory Compression to improve system responsiveness?

Recently while reading a few things on the NAS (DS918+) I came across the 'Enable Memory Compression to improve system responsiveness' option. It seems that there are a few varying options as to whether this should be turned on or not.

The NAS is a standard model with no additional memory installed.

I've had it running with compression since I first started running it with the DSM6.x, but it seems (so I can gather) that DSM 7.x doesn't seem to have the 'CPU issue' that the older OS seemed to suffer.

So the question is, should I enable it or not?

If you're not experiencing any issues with performance, it might not be worth it. Memory compression introduces some overhead, so it's not always the best choice for everyday use.

Okay it did increase CPU usage a little but the highest it's been around 16%, memory usage has increased to about 27% from 20%. So is it worth leaving it on as those seem acceptable figures??

Okay, point taken, I've turned it off again and I'm rebooting now.... :)
