Memory is the faculty of the brain by which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved when needed.
Memory is vital to experiences, it is the retention of information over time for the purpose of influencing future action. If we could not remember past events, we could not learn or develop language, relationships, or personal identity.Often memory is understood as an informational processing system with explicit and implicit functioning that is made up of a sensory processor, short-term (or working) memory, and long-term memory. This can be related to the neuron.
The sensory processor allows information from the outside world to be sensed in the form of chemical and physical stimuli and attended to various levels of focus and intent. Working memory serves as an encoding and retrieval processor. Information in the form of stimuli is encoded in accordance with explicit or implicit functions by the working memory processor. The working memory also retrieves information from previously stored material. Finally, the function of long-term memory is to store data through various categorical models or systems.Explicit and implicit functions of memory are also known as declarative and non-declarative systems. These systems involve the purposeful intention of memory retrieval and storage, or lack thereof.
Declarative, or explicit, memory is the conscious storage and recollection of data. Under declarative memory resides semantic and episodic memory. Semantic memory refers to memory that is encoded with specific meaning, while episodic memory refers to information that is encoded along a spatial and temporal plane. Declarative memory is usually the primary process thought of when referencing memory.Non-declarative, or implicit, memory is the unconscious storage and recollection of information. An example of a non-declarative process would be the unconscious learning or retrieval of information by way of procedural memory, or a priming phenomenon. Priming is the process of subliminally arousing specific responses from memory and shows that not all memory is consciously activated, whereas procedural memory is the slow and gradual learning of skills that often occurs without conscious attention to learning.Memory is not a perfect processor, and is affected by many factors. The ways by which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved can all be corrupted. The amount of attention given new stimuli can diminish the amount of information that becomes encoded for storage. Also, the storage process can become corrupted by physical damage to areas of the brain that are associated with memory storage, such as the hippocampus. Finally, the retrieval of information from long-term memory can be disrupted because of decay within long-term memory. Normal functioning, decay over time, and brain damage all affect the accuracy and capacity of the memory.Memory loss is usually described as forgetfulness or amnesia.

Cannot tell if installed memory is dual rank or single rank?

I've installed some third party memory into my Synology DS418Play and it appears to be working just fine and I believe it is dual rank memory (it's g.skill and it doesn't actually show what rank it is on the label, but looking at the chip configuration, it appears to be dual). However, I tried...

Confirming Memory compatibility ( Kingston -> DS 1621+)

Hi there, I just wanted to confirm that using Kingston memories 16GB DDR4 2666MHz SODIMM KCP426SD8/16 ( 2x16 GB) on a DS 1621+ was a successfull operation, no issue for the moment. Sometimes for the european customer is quite difficult to find it.. I did on local Amazon store in Italy ( ASIN ...

What is a safe memory limit for docker containers?

Sometimes I come across docker-compose files in which a memory limit is set for the docker container. I personally have never done that for my containers, but I was wondering who among you have done that and why? I always thought that Synology's GUI took care of that automatically. So if you...

New DS920+ want upgrade memory non synology recommendations

Hi, I just returned my 1st NAS ever 220+, it worked fine, however soon realized that it wouldn't accommodate future expansion plans, so I exchanged for the 920+, knowing that it too has limitations, however as a starter NAS it is way more than I can use presently, future 2-3 years might require...

    DS220+ upgrade to 18GB.

After my initial upgrade to 6GB with a 4GB Crucial memory that lasted for more than 7 months with no problems, I've gone mad and upgraded the 220+ to 18GB 😁 It's been about a week now and no problems so far. I've never received any warnings even during the first boot after installation, it was...

Does D4ES01-4G memory work with the DS2419+ ?

I'm just looking to verify that this memory will work in the nas listed. I see that the support page lists only the 16gb as a recommended option, however as it comes with 4gb, and I do not plan on using the nas for more than storage, I think 4gb and the stock behaviour will suffice. As such, I...
