ISSUE
Hyper Backup > Select Restoration Task > Select Location > Enter Password > ERROR
"Unable to perform this action, possibly because the network connection is unstable or the system is busy. Please try again later."
Note: If password is incorrect, the error indicates password issue. Password is accurate and accepted.

QUESTION
In addition to getting past this error, is there a way to set up Synology for a 'non-destructive' delete like Mac, so a quick trigger finger doesn't destroy life?

BACKGROUND
Think there is a finder bug in MacOS (Sequoia 15.5). Issue is repeatable, though not 100% repeatable.
Two finder windows open. Left window with a MacOS folder showing, right window with a Synology folder showing.
Both windows show as in focus, regardless of which window is selected (ie using mouse to click window.) Cmd-delete deletes the folder from Synology instead of Mac even though steps were taken to ensure the Mac window was focus and active. Yes, a warning showed by I clicked proceed too quickly w/o realizing the window was a Synology 'can not be undone' message.

Assuming the data lives on the NAS and is being accessed by the Mac, you could protect it with the Snapshot Replication package. With up to 5-minute snaps, you will be able to use and quickly recover from a deleted or altered file without the use of a traditional Hyper Backup restore.

"Unable to perform this action, possibly because the network connection is unstable or the system is busy. Please try again later."
messages file via SSH would provide more details on this issue (/var/logs/messages)

Rusty - Snapshot was turned on and saved the day. Glad that was on. Many of these items are set and forget.

During this alarming time a few questions surfaced and I fully admit nerves might be talking here...related to Hyperbackup.
  • Hyperbackup is only showing Local Storage 2, where I am expecting to also see Local Storage 1 (DS220+ is 2 bay)

  • Two info tiles under Waiting to check server status leader) show. First titled Target with Offline notification, Version List button disabled. Second titled Task Settings seems fine and Task Settings button works.

  • Last backup shows as surprising old (March.) Backup Now, Backup Explorer and Backup Stats disabled.

  • Menu button is available with Edit/Delete options. Edit brings up Task Settings.
    • One flag is strongly recommending the backup source be different than the backup destination.
I would never have knowingly used the same volume for backup as source.

    • Task Settings > Folders (Volume 1) > one folder is disabled w/flag stating shared folder can not be backup source because it was selected as the backup destination.
Again, not sure how this happened as I wouldn't have knowingly made that selection.

    • In the first bullet referencing Local Storage 2 (to me that would be Volume 2, as this is a two bay device and I didn't split the drives when initializing drives for setup.)

-----
Experimenting now, such as creating a new task from scratch. Backup in process...will take a while.
One folder is encrypted with a warming "Do not unmount the encrypted shared folder (Name) during backup.
If there is a power failure/reboot, the encrypted disk doesn't mount. Would this hose future backups in some odd way, say a day or two passes before re-mounting the shared folder?
