Decided to give macOS26 a go on a Mac Mini M4 Pro to test out the ABB support.

The version in question is the first public beta, specifically 26.0 Beta (25A5316i). All in all, ABB started with zero issues, as did all other Syno apps (Drive, BeeDrive, BeeStation, etc).

The backup was 8 min long due to the new OS, with about 12.5GB large backup transfer. It completed on the first go with no issues whatsoever.

Tell us how the restore goes.
I have locked the macOS 15 backed-up version. I will push this machine with the current beta forward just to see how it all pans out, but I guess I could run a restore run at some point.

Public beta 2 (25A5327h) - ABB, all good.

Public beta 5 (25A5349a) - ABB, all good.

Public beta 25A353 - ABB still working fine

Tahoe 26.1 beta 4 - ABB backup works with no issues.

Tahoe 26.3 - ABB still works with no issues

reformatted my 16 MBP m2 and installed Tahoe 26.2. I'm unable to installed the ABB agent (current 4967.dmg or older version). during the install I get a pop-up error:
"The service cannot be activated normally. Please reboot your device and try again. If the problem remains, please contact
Synology Technical Support." (yes I did change the setting in safe mode). The install does complete but when I try and run ABB agent..I get the pop-up error again.

Emailed Synology and they say that ABB is not supported on Tahoe.
So how did you get ABB to run on Tahoe. Any sort of trick or step I'm missing?

ABB is not supported on Tahoe.
Truth be told, my setup was upgraded from 15.7 to macOS26, so the ABB agent was in fact installed on the 15.x version.

Looks like there are issues when doing a fresh clean ABB install on macOS26. The fact is that Tahoe is indeed still not listed as supported.

This is one reason why personally my production machines are still not on 26, but it is also a fact that if you have ABB agent installed prior to macOS26 it should work just fine.

In my testing, all backups are running fine, as well as restores (haven't tested bare metal restore yet) but considering the issue you have explained it wouldn't work if the target OS is macOS26 considering it requires agent install before initiating the restore.

Recently I have tested bare metal restore from Tahoe back to 15.7, and ofc that worked just fine.

yes..youre right. ABB was working on Tahoe before I reformatted the machine....but like you, it was upgraded from the previous OSX. live and learn. Thanks!!
hopefully there will be an updated agent coming out soon. 🤞

I'm in a real pickle and need to restore a bare metal backup of a Tahoe (26.2/26.3) machine. The backup part seems like it's been working fine, but the restore just times out after the QR code is shown (at the point when Migration Assistant is supposed to launch I think...). I'm using 3.1.0-4967 of the recovery wizard. Anyone got any tips? Or am I S.O.L ?

looks like that updated client is part of a newer version (3.2.0-5053) which is in a staged rollout, the specifications here now explicitly state that Tahoe is supported :)

EDIT: installed that version from the Synology download centre, installed on NAS, updated client and rebooted it to check ... no change, "the service cannot be activated normally" still appears at startup ... ticket logged with Synology.

Was this a fresh Tahoe install or upgrade from 15.x.x?

Because my backups work fine (both for Tahoe mac and macOS 15.7.4). Mind you Tahoe was upgrade from v15, it is not a fresh install. ABB is 3.2 (since its beta version, and the current production version from 2 days ago).

fresh install, on a macbook neo (so Tahoe is the oldest supported version). I have Tahoe running on my mac mini which was upgraded from previous macOS versions and that works fine (as yours does).

So the same "MO" remains with 3.2. Not sure if this is ABB or macOS issue tbh

I've been getting replies from Synology and they've been collecting data from both machines, however ...

I've just updated the device (macBook Neo) to macOS Tahoe 26.4 and the problem seems to have fixed itself ... I rebooted a couple more times to check and the client is now loading (I re-added it to the "open at login" list before updating macOS) with no errors reported.
