Synology DSM 7.4 and AI future

It has been eight months since Synology released a new version of DSM, not including incremental updates that came after October 2025.

Now, following the Computex 2026 expo, we have info on the upcoming new DSM 7.4 that should arrive starting mid June all the way till mid August, as well as some updates on the productivity packages.

I must ask, Mr T: As I shortly will be in this situation… don’t you feel unsafe knowing you don’t have most recent security updates? That’s what I’m most concerned about regarding sticking at V7.3.x…. With all the security updates we’ve seen in 7, how is that affecting at 6??

Good question JJ. Not feeling very targeted now, and many of these are DSM7 bugs. Others require direct access to the NAS.

All in all, I'm less concerned. Catastrophic RAID failure seem more likely. For that, I have snapshots and 3-2-1 backups. I can live with v6.2.4, and I sense that you can as well. DSM 6.2.4 is a solid release.

Thank you for that.
I have always liked those Synology posts indicating the threat, brief description, the severity, and the version with status and solution status, but these are seen less often now. That and “Security issue(s) fixed” in release notes with no other helpful text (For example: The current SRM Update) is not helpful at all, especially when another program’s presently running on a “patch” to become operational (TP). So I contact Support and sometimes I get further info, like I have done this time with SRM & TP!

As 7.4 progresses and I, and thousands of others, remain 7.3.x this info will become more important. Hope Synology understands
