hi all,

A friend advised me to switch to the Drive Application on my Synology DS21xplay.
So i installed the app on my syno, and was asked to convert my home-map.

The process has been running now for 3 days already, and my Synology is unreachable.
I have tons of photo's, videos, music, etc.
1,5 Tb on a 2 tb disc.

I'm guessing I have a problem now? Or not?
Please some help from you guys, professionals....

The first sync just takes the longest, especially if it's a lot.
What does your friend say about this?

Friend hasn't had this long conversion time

Could it be that my Surveillance Station is blocking the pocess? It's recording 3 camera's

The DS214play doesn’t support the Btrfs file system type. From the datasheet it only supports Ext4 for internal volumes.

The versioning feature of Drive Server is much more storage efficient with Btrfs. With Ext4 file system it will use the same storage again for versioned files.

With older Drive installs it used /home/Drive for the users Drive home. Now it uses the user’s /home folder. So if you have lots of files in home then it might be taking its time.

Thanks Fredbert.
Question: does it concert ALL files? Also the Movies of 2 gig? And the thousands of mp3's, and jpg -photos?

Hi Telos!
He adviced me Drive because of the slow external connection with the DS File app, said that the Drive application was much faster....

Now I'm really worried, when you say that my storage will be rapidly consumed. I have 1,8 TB on a 2 TB storage. Will it ever fit? Will it be enough to do a conversion? Is that why it's already converting for 4 days??

🤔 Hmmm

You can use Drive without versioning enabled on the home/team folders. Obviously then any changes will just be propagated. You can still use Hyper Backup to make versioned backups outside of Drive.

Thanks Fredbert.

It applies to files that change.

This is erroneous. There is no speed advantage. DS File is pretty lean.
you say that my storage will be rapidly consumed
Only if you have enabled versioning (and only for the files being versioned). If you require versioning, only version files that may be frequently changed, and limit the number of versions to what you actually require, knowing that your external backups already provide (a less granular) "versioning".

Then still the question is: why is my Synology already 4 days unreachable and the drives working hard?

Should I hard-power off, or wait a day or two more?
